Sept. 4, 2025-- Lady Pioneers Soar in Win v. Hudsonville Hudsonville, MI-- It did not take long for the Lady Pioneers to raise their game to an altitude much higher than the Hudsonville Lady Eagles could handle. From the outset, East set the tone with crisp passing and an intensity that made the opposition realize it was going to be a long night. The Lady Eagles are a much improved side this season and presented some stiff challenges which took most of the first quarter for the visitors from EGR to solve. However, once they did, it became a tough road for the girls from Hudsonville to keep East out of the offensive zone. Four of the seven scores came on set offensive penalty corners. With four minutes remaining in the first quarter, Addi Storrs ('26) slammed home the first tally of this game, and her 4th of the season. Storrs also added an assist on the night on Astrauskas' 2nd goal. From there, Peyton Astrauskas ('27) set the tone with a hat trick in the first half. She scored her first less than a minute after Storrs' score. Austrauskas first goal was a beautiful and skillful reverse chip from about 15 yards out into the top left corner over the goalies outstretched stick hand. The second notch in her stick came just 7 minutes later with a dynamic reverse stick lift that surprised the goalie with as the shot whizzed by at hip height. The final goal of her hat trick came off of a set piece offensive penalty corner with a slight pass off the inbounds from Neel van Woudenbergh ('26). Van Woudenbergh made her first contribution to the scoring this season. She is an exchange student from the Netherlands and is new to the Lady Pioneers team. Avery Albers ('27) played her solid midfield game participating in the scoring with two tallies and an assist on the night. Mayi Prado ('26), an exchange student from Spain, remained involved in the scoring this season by adding an assist on Albers' 2nd goal. Camilla Volovlek ('28) also played a role by assisting on the 1st goal by Storrs. Contributions to this victory came from a variety of players and some were unexpected. Kelly McMahon ('26) stepped up onto the circle to provide some balance on an offensive penalty corner and the defensewoman swept home a solid shot that beat the goalie to the corner of the cage. This was the first tally in the Senior's career with assists coming from new Varsity players, Toccoa Lepley ('29) and Tess Bombery ('28). This goal for McMahon also came on her birthday. It was the seventh goal of the game and certainly put the icing on the night. The Lady Pioneers continue to rev up their engine with a clash against the Dearborn Pioneers Saturday, Sept. 6 at 10 AM on the Mehney Field home turf.
