Nov. 6, 2025-- EAST GRAND RAPIDS, MI Congratulations from teammates and classmates us great. However unadulterated adulation from kindergartners is awesome. Today, Coach Kelsey Chun and Asst. Coach Gideon Sanders had the pleasure of handing out the All-State awards to two players from this year's squad. Peyton Astrauskas ('27) was surprised by the appearance of the coaches during Ms. Mitchell's class as the last hour of the day started. The coaches interrupted the class to share the news and allow Astrauskas to get all the feels from her classmates, with some high fives sprinkled in as well. Ms. Mitchell, an ardent supporter of the Field Hockey Program, having been honored as Teacher of the Match multiple times over the past few years, was delighted that this was done during her class period with Peyton. Astrauskas received enough votes to be placed on the 3rd Team All-State team for the 2025 season. After having learned that Ellie Hilgendorf ('26) was at her CADET teaching class at one of the local elementary schools, the coaches raced across town to catch her while in class with her students. Hilgendorf is doing her CADET internship with Ms. Kerri McKee, who was Hilgendorf's first teacher in the East Grand Rapids School system some 12 years ago. Ms. McKee outfitted all the 5 and 6 year olds in the class with blue and gold pompoms and created a tunnel of honor for Hilgendorf to march through to recieve her certificate for being named to the 2nd Team All-State side for the 2025 season, a recognition for being one of the best goalies in the state of Michigan. The EGR Field Hockey Program, from the coaching staff to the players to the parents, the high school and the community all congratulate these two wonderful players for their accomplishments. Hilgendorf is off to college next year and hopes to continue her hockey career for another four years. Meanwhile, come catch Astrauskas and her teammates battle for another run at a State title next season starting in mid-August.
